Shadow Magician

A video projection-mapped sculptural portrait shown at Phoenix Brighton Dec 2014. Three objects – a battered kickboxing practice dummy, a gold robe and a sandwich board – combine with videos of natural forms and an interview with artist and performer Tim Leopard.

This work represents the manifestation of a dysfunctional Jungian Archetype. Within the Archetypal idea structure, the Magician Archetype is in control of an individual’s understanding and use of systems, knowledge and the means of manipulation of the world. The dysfunction or “shadow” embodied by this work is of the kind where these attributes have been applied to the obsessive examination of events. This is done with a well-rounded grasp of the dark possibilities for human motive and endeavour. In our culture, people with this Shadow Archetype are often called conspiracy theorists.
